Spanish airports see another record

Airports across the country saw a sharp rise in passenger numbers in January, after operator Aena released their passenger numbers for the month.

Airports in the Canaries saw a busy January, as the latest figures show that more than 3.4 million passengers passed through the regions airports, an increase of 6.6% compared to the same time the year before.

According to statistics released this week, nearly 2.5 million international passengers used the airports, whilst 968,000 domestic passengers passed through the islands hubs.

Gran Canaria and Tenerife Sur were the busiest airports, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura came in third and fouth place respectively.

Alicante airport saw a busy January, as the latest figures show that more than 680,000 passengers passed through the airports, an increase of 15.5% compared to the same time the year before.

According to statistics released this week, the majority of passengers came from the UK, with over a quarter of a million arriving from Britain. Nealy 100,000 domestic passengers passed through the airport as well, on a total of 5524 flight movements in the month.

There were also significant passenger numbers from Germany, Holland, Norway and Belgium.

And airports in the Costa del Sol saw a busy January, as the latest figures show that over 18% more passengers passed through Malaga airport.

According to statistics released this week, over 867,000 passengers used the airport, with over 7000 flight movements in the month.

712,298 passengers, the bulk of the number that passed through, were on international flights.
