Greece’s Piraeus Port Authority donates 3,000 Easter gifts to children in need

ATHENS, April 13 (Xinhua) — Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA), a member of China’s COSCO Shipping Group, donated on Tuesday 3,000 presents to children of vulnerable families in Greece’s largest port city and two neighboring municipalities ahead of the Greek Orthodox Christian Easter, which is celebrated on May 2 this year.

It is the first time PPA donates gifts ahead of the Easter holidays, according to an e-mailed press release. The company had donated gifts ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays in recent years and supported local charities which distribute food to families in need.

The gift cards were handed over by acting PPA CEO Zhang Anming and the top management team to Giannis Lagoudakis, mayor of Perama, Charalampia Zilakou, vice-mayor of Piraeus and Pantelis Dioletis, vice-mayor of Salamis municipality.

The donation proved PPA’s “active participation in the joint effort for a better tomorrow,” Zhang said, wishing Happy Easter to all children and residents of Piraeus and neighboring municipalities.

COSCO Shipping Group acquired the majority of PPA’s shares in 2016 after an international tender. Its subsidiary, Piraeus Container Terminal S.A. (PCT), has been managing the port’s container terminal since 2009. Enditem
